Q: What is holistic massage? A: Holistic massage is a kind of massage therapy that treats the entire body from head to foot. Its name comes from the word "holos," which is the Greek word for "whole." While this simple definition may bring to mind the idea of a whole body massage, holistic massage does much more than that. Holistic massage is a massage treatment that is benefit for both physical and mental health.

Q: How Does Massage Heal the Body?
A: Oriental massage affects the body in many different ways. It all depends on the kind of treatment the massage therapist uses on you as well as the particular area of your body that she concentrates on. There are, however, a few basic effects that you can expect from a healing massage that can do wonders to the condition of your body.
1. Massage loosens tight muscles.
2. Massage induces the release of the happy hormones.
3. Massage coaxes the lymphatic system to produce white blood cells.

Q: Are there any preparations I need to make before doing oriental massage?
A: When the client arrives for their oriental massage they will be asked to remove their jewelry and shoes. Depending upon the individual needs of the client they might be asked to remove garments. For example if they have a back injury. Of course it goes without saying that a clean cotton sheet will be provided to the client to protect their modesty. The reason for removing clothing is simply that the special oils utilized within oriental massage will stain and ruin clothing. So this is something to remember when you are picking out your clothing before the oriental massage.

Q: Should I eat before I come for a massage?
A: It is best to not eat for at least 90 minutes before your massage treatment and only a light meal at that time. The body needs time to digest your food. This is the same caution you would take when you go swimming or exercising. The digestion process directs the blood flow away from your peripheral tissues and concentrates it on digestive tract. Massage draws the blood flow to the area tissues being worked on therefore draws the blood away from the digestive tract causing poor digestion and possible discomfort.

Q: Is there anything that I have to pay attention for a massage?
A: Yes, you should avoid consuming alcohol and drugs 24 hours before and 24 hours after your massage therapy. This will ease the load on your liver and kidneys after the massage releases the toxins out of your system. When you are being massaged, you should also stop thinking about the things that cause you stress. Forget about your problems at work and at home for an hour or two and focus your mind on your healing. When the mind and the body are both focused on healing, you can actually make the process go much faster and much more effective.

Q: What kind of oils does massage therapy use?
A: Many different types of oils can be used including fractionated coconut oil, grape seed oil, olive oil, almond oil, macadamia oil, sesame oil, pecan oil, and mustard oil. Aromatherapy oils such as neroli oil and pine oil can also be mixed with carrier oils. Carrier oils are oils extracted from certain nuts, fruits and vegetables. Also sometimes called vegetable oils, carrier oils are used by practitioners of aromatherapy and by massage therapists for mixing with essential oils before they are applied to the skin. Carrier oils, just as their name implies, carry the essential oil to the skin for absorption. Carrier oils are necessary because essential oils are too highly concentrated to be used alone and may cause irritations to the skin. But even though carrier oils function as bases for essential oils, they also have their own individual properties, and these properties are beneficial to the body when applied to it. Thus, carrier oils can be used alone.
